Where the figures come from

Height is at the withers in inches; weight in pounds for adult dogs. Where a breed standard states a figure it is used first (AKC, then FCI); where the standard is silent, the Wikipedia infobox or VCA breed page is used and named. Metric figures were converted and rounded to the nearest half inch or pound. Where the source gives only a maximum, the range reads "up to" that figure. Checked 2026-10-20. Sources used: the AKC breed standards (height and weight where the standard states them), FCI standards, Wikipedia breed infoboxes (which cite the FCI or kennel club standard) and VCA Animal Hospitals breed pages for the few breeds whose standards give neither figure. Each breed page names its own two sources.

Size classes used on breed pages, by the top of the standard weight range: toy up to 12 lb, small to 25, medium to 60, large to 100, giant above.
