About Pup Sizer

Pup Sizer answers four questions new dog owners ask in the same week: what size crate, what size harness, what size bed, and how much food. It is an independent site run by a US-based software engineer who got tired of charts that disagreed with each other and never said where their numbers came from.

How the site works

Crate, harness and bed sizes are the manufacturers' own published charts — MidWest, Ruffwear and Orvis — copied with their dimensions and bands. Feeding amounts use the resting energy requirement formula and the Merck Veterinary Manual's maintenance factors, divided by the kcal per cup printed on a named food. Breed heights and weights come from the AKC or FCI standard where the standard states them, and from Wikipedia or VCA where it does not, named on every page. The methodology page lists everything with links.

Independence

Pup Sizer is not affiliated with or endorsed by MidWest Homes for Pets, Ruffwear, Orvis, Purina, the American Kennel Club, the FCI or VCA. Charts are quoted because they are published openly. See the disclosure.

Corrections

If a figure is wrong or a chart has changed, email hello@pupsizer.com with the page URL and a link to the current figure. Corrections go into the data file and the check date updates with the next build.
